    Goody News.

I had a rare hour of ‘kidlessness’ on Saturday and whilst channel hopping with an even rarer hot cuppa came across the funeral of Jade Goody on Sky News.

The first time I came across Jade was on Big Brother a fair few years back. My first impressions were that of a load mouthed, ‘dumb blonde’, an attention seeker – a typically clichéd ‘Essex girl’.

Over the years and press attention my initial views remained, but added to the mix were an affection for a brutally honest, kind hearted, loving mum who was constantly belittled, ridiculed and even branded a racist in a ridiculous and callous media witch hunt.

Whatever I or anyone else may have thought of this woman, the simple fact is that God loves her.

I have never heard the Gospel of Christ preached to so many, in such an unlikely context as I did at this funeral.
Thousands of young people out to pay their respects (and possibly spot a few celebrity mourners) listened as a female member of Clergy shared how Jade had turned to Christ and been Baptised along with her sons a few weeks earlier. How Jade had loved to read the Gospel of Luke and found comfort in knowing she was going to Heaven to be ‘made better’. This Clergy woman gently encouraged those listening to search for Jesus for themselves.

As these words winged their way to millions via Sky news I couldn’t help feel an all consuming love welling up in me for my Heavenly Father.
Isn’t this so like the God I love…the God who uses the most unlikely of characters in the most unlikely way to reveal himself again to millions

A Gospel story of our times if ever there was one.
